NEW DELHI: Osama Bin Laden is alive and some evidence of it will emerge in the coming days, according to new information that has surfaced.

Reliable sources dismiss reports in a section of the Pakistan and international media that Bin Laden is dead. The Pakistani newspaper, Ausaf, based in Multan, has claimed that Bin Laden died last June in a village near Kandahar.

Some other media reports have claimed that he died in the earthquake of October 8 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

But now, authoritative sources confirm that both the reports are not true, and that the global terrorist is very much alive.

According to these sources, Bin Laden is alive and is probably somewhere along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Presently, intense fighting is going on between American and Afghan forces on one side and Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters on the other, along the Pakistan-Afghan border. The unprecedented military campaign, sources say, is much bloodier than any in recent times.

Sources have inferred that Al Qaeda's aggressive defence is probably to protect Bin Laden from US forces. Some media reports had claimed that Bin Laden had moved to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to escape the military campaign by American forces along the Afghan border and got caught in the earthquake.

Sources say indications are that clear evidence to establish that Bin Laden is alive will emerge in the coming few days, probably a video message. It has been over a year since Bin Laden released his last video message.

The last video from the man wanted for numerous attacks across the globe was in October, 2004. In December last year, an audiotape of Bin Laden also emerged. Ever since then it has been Ayman al-Zawahiri who has been appearing in public on behalf of Al Qaeda. Sources believe that is part of a strategy.

However, just after the earthquake of October 8, a physician who has in the past treated Bin Laden was present in Muzaffarabad.

That may have been the reason for some media to report that the global terrorist is dead, misinterpreting the doctor's presence. It is possible that the doctor was there either to carry out relief operations in the wake of the quake, or he may have landed there just before the earthquake, sources argue.
