The 'moral brigade' on the prowl in the Vaigai dam area in Theni district of Tamil Nadu  during Valentine's day, was taken aback when a youth asked them to arrange for 'registered marriage' when they cornered him and his lover.

Police said eight BJP and Hindu Munnani activists, moving around with "Mangal sutra" and turmeric paste to marry off couples found dating on Saturday evening, were flabbergasted when the youth made his request.

Rajamanickam, a marketing executive, who had come with his lady love, asked the eight activists, comprising BJP local leader Kannan and Hindu munnani workers including women, to arrange for a registered marriage. This led to an altercation and police in the area quickly took the activists into custody, DSP Pandiarajan said.

A case was registered against the activists for 'causing public nuisance.' They were later released.

Rajamanickam said he was prepared to take on the sangh parivar activists after coming to know that they were on the lookout for couples dating.
