CBI files case against own cop involved in recruitment scam

The CBI on Wednesday lodged a case against a head constable of the agency under Arms Act as an unlicensed revolver was in his possession at the time of his arrest over alleged involvement in the CRPF recruitment scam.
    
A case had been registered at Gomti Nagar Police station against Brij Bhuvan Chaubey for carrying illegal weapon at the time of his arrest. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the CBI, additional director general of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal said.

The CBI had stated that a case under section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Chaubey.

Chaubey was arrested by the CBI team with Rs 1.5 lakh cash from his residence last night after his name cropped up in a case of irregular appointment of constables in the CRPF.

"Lodging the report CBI inspector Pawan Kumar claimed that when Chaubey's house at Vivek Khand was searched, a .32 bore Indian Ordinance made revolver was recovered without licence," he said.
    
Following Chaubey's arrest the CBI team also searched the house of Central Reservce Police Force (CRPF) DIG Vinod Kumar Sharma, who had also been detained by the investigating agency.
    
The ADG said that the arrested head constable had been taken to Delhi by the CBI.
