‘Awesome’ is an understatement when one defines Indian football captain dancing on the stage for Jhalak Dikhla Ja entertainment show. The Sikkimese star is probably the first Indian footballer to have added to the glamour quotient of any event which actually is captured by the cricketers nowadays in our country.
People though are well aware of the fact that Sreesanth can dance well while Harbhajan Singh also doesn’t falter when it comes to shaking a leg. But a handful may have had an idea that Bhutia can also dance like a pro at the age of 32.
The star footballer actually didn’t have any formal grooming in dance. “I have never danced anywhere but here I think I have done a decent job,” Bhutia told DNA on Tuesday, the eve of Mohun Bagan’s crucial tie against Mahindra United in New Delhi’s Ambedkar stadium.
Heaving praised the choreographers, Bhutia felt that without them, nothing would have been possible. “They did all the hard work, I only followed what they said, but the end result was good and I am really happy for that,” Bhutia said.
Sharing his experience, Bhutia explained how different it was from what he actually does on the field. “It was an awesome experience to be on the television and doing something which I have never done though I had affinity for music since my childhood days,” Bhutia explained.
Bhutia was all praise for former India batsman Mohinder Amarnath, who was his co-contestant in the entertainment show. “We all know about his cricketing brilliance, but he is a great performer off the field too… and as a person he is even better,” the Sikkimese said about the former middle-order batsman.
He admitted that playing football and dancing on the dais are two different ball games and being a footballer himself, Bhutia didn’t get anything in common, barring the fitness which is required in both. “I didn’t get to use any of my football skills there as I had to follow what the choreographers advised me.”
Even without saying much, the India captain must have murmured Bhaichung can dance saala.
