Simens Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of Siemens AG, will treble the capacity of its steam turbine factory in Vadodara, Gujarat.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the company said it plans to invest Rs 275 crore in the expansion programme, expected to be complete by 2010.

The expansion programme will add three additional production bays, which will help it manufacture steam turbines up to 100 mw range.
Once the expansion is complete, the factory will look at strengthening exports to Asia, Africa and Europe, besides focusing on the domestic market.}

The company has an established market and strong experience in manufacturing smaller steam turbines, which it ventured into two years ago.

“Now with three times the capacity and ability to manufacture 100 mw turbines locally, we can address broader requirement of our customers,” Armin Bruck, managing director, Siemens Ltd, said in the press release.

The Vadodara facility currently manufactures single-stage and multi-stage turbines up to 45 mw range.
