AAU V-C basks in award glory

Vice-chancellor of Anand Agricultural University (AAU), MC Varshneya, has been chosen for 'Glory of India' award for his 'contribution in agriculture sector leading to economic growth of India'. The award would be given away at a function in London on July 18.

The award has been conferred by the Indian International Friendship Society (IIFS), New Delhi, which aims to promote friendship between British and Indian people. It does that by creating a congenial atmosphere for mutual cooperation and encouraging investment in Indian projects. 

A communiqué from secretary-general of IIFS said that Varshneya had been selected by the IIFS for his special role in proactively strengthening the Indo- British ties.
Varshneya, who was visibly elated on receiving the award, said it gave him immense satisfaction to know that AAU's work has been internationally acclaimed.

Asked what was his best work at AAU, he promptly replied, "Works like setting up bio-diesel plant, technology development which benefited farmers and the way academic atmosphere has changed after I took over as V-C, are my best works. This award is a means of recognising our progress."  Varshneya has also come up with a calendar for farmers to predict rainfall. 

Varshneya was first appointed as V-C in 2004 and reappointed later on. His appointment had sparked off a controversy as he reportedly had an RSS background.
