Hilarious 'Murugun', not so 'Daddy Cool'

The weekend promises you movies from different genres, from patriotism in today's time to our very first south Indian cowboy. Movie buffs tell DNA about the films they watched

It’s an action-packed journey
The Taking of Pelham 123 is an entertaining thriller about a band of hijackers. I haven't seen the original film that is of the same name, but I believe that it is way better then this one. Beating a popular original movie is a tough job, but they sure did a decent job. My friends have watched the original film and they don't agree with me on this. I am a Denzel Washington fan and I just love his acting. He has done a superb job in this film. John Travolta over did his part. But all-in-all a good film.

This daddy ain’t that cool
Why can't Indian directors come up with innovative ideas for a movie rather than replicating a good Hollywood film? Daddy Cool is a complete rip off of Death at a funeral. The film is not even remotely funny and is filled with slapstick comedy. The pace of the film is boring and slow. In fact, there is nothing in the film that would make it interesting or entertaining. The moviemaker even used the old classic song by Boney M. Height of laziness, I guess!

A remake of Upkaar?
Honestly, I don't know whether films like Kisaan would do well in today's day and age. I remember, my mother telling me about a similar film that was made on the same line few years back. It was called Upkaar. And that film was way better than Kisaan. Sohail Khan’s acting is in nothing compared to Manoj Kumar’s performance. Just making a patriotic film is not enough; you need to add all the elements to make it successful but, unfortunately, Khan fails to do so. And how much do they know about a kisaan's life? The remix version of the song Mere desh ki dharti is bad, the original song was so beautifully sung, they have ruined it.

A double-whammy film
This film is a combination of action cum sci-fi which the children will enjoy. In Race to Witch Mountain sci-fi effects are prevalent throughout the movie. There is so much happening in the movie that one does not get bored at all. The movie includes all the elements that make it truly a family movie. Dwayne Johnson's performance is superb in the film. His comic timing is apt and seeing him in such a role is a treat that one must not miss.

A humourous film, mind it!
Quick Gun Murugun is one of the hilarious movies I have seen in recent time. Taken forward from a Channel V's character, this film also has Lola Kutty who has given her best performance. The movie is very innovative. It also shows that a hero doesn't have to have a perfect body. A simple storyline is what attracts one to watch the film. No one would ever think of making a movie on a subject of how to make dosas. But this what the movie is all about. The director took the risk and went ahead with the story. It is a break from the usual action pack or stereotyped  mushy films. I would recommend everyone to go watch this film, not because it is funny, but also an honest effort made by the director and the team. This is after all the first south Indian cowboy movie.
