Guess who drew the loudest cheers from the crowd after superstar Virat Kohli in the second Test on Thursday? It wasn't a player but a stray dog that interrupted play just before tea. As it entered the field, the crowd went berserk, screaming and cheering for it. The dog, obviously not knowing importance of the game, ran around as the players stood in their places. The groundsmen then chased the animal for about two minutes with shoes in hand. But the efforts went in vain. Sensing that the time was being wasted, the umpires called for tea four balls earlier s the dog eventually made its exit. Cheteshwar Pujara, who was on 97, had to wait until after the tea break, to complete his century.
School kids enjoy Kohli's knock
Virat Kohli's three-figure knock was a treat for the school kids in uniform who were invited to watch the first ever Test match at the ACA-VDCA Stadium. Even as Kohli descended from the dressing room after Murali Vijay returned to the pavilion, the kids cheered the loudest to welcome their favourite cricketer. Around 6,000 kids from different city schools made it to the ground to enjoy the purest format of the game. "As part our strategy to promote Test cricket among school kids we have given 6000 free tickets to the students. There was not just breakfast, but lunch and snack as well so that children don't stay hungry and enjoy the game," said an Andhra Cricket Association official. "The next day will students from different schools, giving everyone an opportunity to watch the game" he added.
CM Naidu graces the occasion
Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu was the guest of honour along with other dignitaries as Vizag played host to its first ever Test match at the Dr YSR Reddy ACA-VDCA on Thursday. The CM flew down in a helicopter. And mind you, the parking slot of the chopper was made adjacent to the ground 20 hours before the game. However, the BCCI top officials including president Anurag Thakur were conspicuous by their absence. Rahul Johri, the BCCI CEO, though made it to the venue as its representative.
