Ravindra Jadeja set to return as selectors pick squad for Australia

Back in the limelight with a solid show against South Africa in the recently-concluded Test series, Ravindra Jadeja is likely to make a return as the national selectors meet here on Saturday to pick the Indian squad for the upcoming limited-overs series in Australia.

While Jadeja almost looks a certainty, the selectors are likely to discuss about the inclusion of fit-again pacer Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Murali Vijay, who has started batting in the middle-order for Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

It will be interesting to see if the selectors consider Yuvraj Singh, who has been in top form for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. To press his case further, the southpaw also smashed an 83-ball 98 against Services in Secundarabad on Friday.

The selectors are unlikely to tinker with the core of the team, with at least 12 player picking themselves in both the formats.

With 23 wickets in his comeback series against the Proteas, Jadeja should be back in coloured clothing squad. Axar Patel is likely to make way for the Saurashtra all-rounder. Ishant, who has had a good season as the strike bowler in Test matches, is likely to get the nod as well.

The other highlight could be the selectors' take on whether to include Shami in the squad. Shami, who had undergone knee surgery after the 2015 World Cup, made his comeback to competitive cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last Sunday. His return would certainly boost India's mediocre pace attack in the limited-overs formats.

India will play five ODIs and three T20Is in Australia, with the first game starting on January 12.
