Top 5 highest individual scores in ICC Cricket World Cup till 2015

The 2015 Cricket World Cup was the 11th Cricket World Cup which was jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand from February 14 to March 29, 2015. Every World Cup it is expected for a record or two, to be broken. But nothing has changed since 2011 on the list of highest individual scores in ICC Cricket World Cup. Here is top 5 leading individual scores till this year.

Gary Kristen: 

The former South African cricketer and the World Cup-winning coach of the Indian Cricket Team, Gary Kristen, holds the first place amongst those who scored highest individual runs till 2015. He had scored 188* against UAE with a terrific average of 118.23 in 1996 World Cup. After retiring, he spent some time with the Warriors as a consultant batting coach and in 2006, he set up his own academy in Cape Town.  As a batsman, what stood out was his determination, the ability to concentrate for long periods and a burning desire to score runs.

Sourav Ganguly:

The former captain of Indian cricket team Sourav Ganguly who is known as the 'God of Offside', is one of those who individually scored highest runs in ICC Cricket World Cup till 2015. Ganguly played 158 balls scoring 183 against Sri Lanka at Taunton on May 26 in 1999 World Cup. That day was witness to Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid putting up the first 300-run partnership in the history of One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Vaas bowled a tight line, and though Mohammad Azharuddin was supportive in terms of strike rotation, Ganguly went past Kapil Dev’s 175* to register the highest score by an Indian in the World Cup. Victory in Pakistan turned him from a captain into a cult figure but that instead of being a springboard for greater things, proved to be the peak of a slippery slope.

Vivian Richards:

The former West Indian Cricketer Vivian Alexander Richards regarded as one of the greatest of batsmen of all times, is in top 5 leading individual scorer in ICC Cricket World Cup till 2015. Viv Richards scored 181 against Sri Lanka in 1987 World Cup. His strengths were on the front foot. He could go so far forward that he would plant his left foot outside the line of off-stump, at once eliminating ant chances of leg-before-wicket and creating his own leg stump line from where he would flick bowlers relentlessly through midwicket or skimming through extra cover.

Kapil Dev:

The former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev captained the Indian cricket team which won the 1983 World Cup. He faced 138 balls against Zimbabwe at the league stage in 1983 World Cup, bailing India out with a majestic, back-to-wall 175. Never mind that it was against the World Cup debutantes, that innings at Tunbridge Walls has stood the test of time. It came on a lively pitch that Zimbabwe's bowlers were exploited, and against hopeless odds.

Virender Sehwag: 

Virender Sehwag is an aggressive right-handed former Indian cricketer who recently took retirement from International cricket. In 2011 ICC World Cup he scored 175 against Bangladesh and then his name also added in top 5 highest individual scores.  Not often does one get to see Sehwag bat for long periods in ODI cricket, but when he does, he leaves a devastating impact. Bangladesh were witness to that when he blasted 175 off 140 deliveries, and with some help from Virat Kohli (100* off 83) powered India to a massive 370/4.
