Ayazuddin, the 19-year old son of former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin is battling for life. He has been on the ventilator since he was admitted to a private hospital here on Sunday.
Ayazuddin, along with his cousin Ajamal ur Rahman, had set off on a joy ride on the newly built Outer Ring Road (ORR) on the outskirts of Hyderabad. According to sources, the duo were racing at over 200 kmph when they lost control of the bike. As the youngsters applied brakes suddenly in an attempt to stay clear off a construction for a toll gate on the road, the bike skidded off the road dragging the duo for over half a kilometer. While Ayaz was driving the bike, 16-year old Ajmal was pillion-riding.
The doctors treating him said on Monday that his condition is “very critical” and about 70-80 units of blood were given to him.
However, the doctors have not clarified if he was responding to the treatment. According to sources, Ayaz suffered serious head injuries apart from injury to his liver, lungs and kidneys.
Said to be shy like his father, Ayaz stays with his paternal grandfather in Hyderabad. His mother Naureen was in Dubai when the mishap occurred. Azhar too was in London. Azhar’s wife Sangeeta Bijlani was the first to arrive at the hospital apart from the relatives of Ajmal.
