Inter Milan overcame the absence of four suspended players to win 3-2 at Udinese and stay top of Italy's Serie A at the weekend.

Barcelona and Real Madrid both won again in Spain, the latter hitting five past Tenerife to take their tally to 11 goals in their last two league games. Chelsea's 37-match unbeaten home run ended against Manchester City in the English Premier League.

Simone Pepe gave the hosts an early lead but the champions, without four suspended players, stormed back thanks to Mario Balotelli, Maicon and Diego Milito.

Barcelona stayed two points clear of Real Madrid after both teams won again in the 24th round of matches.

Lionel Messi scored an 84th minute winner to give Barcelona a 2-1 win over Malaga, who had levelled three minutes earlier through Valdo.

Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain scored twice as Real Madrid thrashed Tenerife 5-1 away to make it six wins in a row and 11 goals scored in their last two games.

England

Premier League leaders Chelsea had two players sent off and lost a 37-match unbeaten home record when they slumped to a 4-2 defeat against Manchester City.

Third-placed Arsenal moved within three points of the leaders with a 3-1 win over Stoke City, which was marred by a horrific injury to Aaron Ramsey who broke his leg.

Manchester United, one point behind Chelsea in the league, retained the League Cup, Wayne Rooney heading the winner as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the final.

Bayer Leverkusen set the record for the longest unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season — but lost top place in doing so.

Bayer drew 0-0 at home to Cologne to complete their 24th game without defeat, only to be overtaken by Bayern Munich who beat Hamburg SV 1-0 with a Franck Ribery goal.

Bayern went two points clear with 52 points. Schalke 04 beat arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the Ruhr derby to stay a further two points behind Leverkusen in third.

France
Bad weather disrupted Ligue 1 action this weekend as leaders Girondins Bordeaux's game at Le Mans was postponed due to high winds and heavy rains sweeping France.

Montpellier moved level on points with Bordeaux thanks to a 3-1 home win over Stade Rennes on Saturday. Bordeaux, who have two games in hand, lead promoted Montpellier on goal difference.

In-form Olympique Lyon moved up to third, two points off the pace, after a 2-0 win at home against Nice on Saturday.

Olympique Marseille collected a fourth successive win in the league to go fourth on 48 points with a 3-0 away thrashing of arch-rivals Paris St Germain on Sunday.
