Bernard Tomic accuses police of threatening him

Rising Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic has accused the Gold Coast police of wanting to "hit" him after the 19-year-old was issued $300 traffic fine on three separate occasions Thursday.

Tomic, who was knocked out of the Australian Open by Swiss maestro Roger Federer in the quarterfinals, accused the police officer in charge of acting in a threatening manner.

The teenager driving his orange V8 BMW M3 through Broadbeach was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald, that he thought an officer "wanted to hit me".

"I don’t know what is happening something is really wrong. I don’t know what I am doing, it is like I have killed somebody," he said.

"They gave me three today - tickets - and one police officer says he wants to hit me and it is not a good feeling. It all happens in a day, Australia Day, and I am just trying to have fun with my mate."

Tomic's father did not take this incident lying down. Speaking to Channel 7, John Tomic claimed that the police were wrongly targeting his son.

"I can guarantee this police (officer) here is lying here, this is not fair," he said.

Inspector Allan said it was still not clear what sparked the incident and said it appeared that Tomic wanted to lay "some sort of complaint".

"At this stage we are waiting for Tomic's lawyer to come," he said.

"I don't know what he wants to make a complaint about but we will judge that when he talks to his solicitor."
