Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia today urged BCCI to reconsider its decision of not sending teams in the Asian Games to be held at Guangzhou in China from November 12-27.
"India will have medal chances along with Sri Lanka and Pakistan. I request BCCI to reconsider its decision," Bhutia said on the sidelines of a promotional programme here.
Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh will send their cricket teams to Asian Games.
BCCI had said it will not send either its men's or women's team for the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, which drew widespread criticism.
Meanwhile, Bhutia said the national footballers were happy with their contracts with the AIFF.
On the eight-month training of the Indian players for their Asian Cup preparation, he said, "It's a one-step ahead, it can help improve our preparation. We have been going through the same style in football, what's wrong in trying something different."
Bhutia, who is in contract with a TV channel, did not comment on the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The Indian football icon yesterday met home minister P Chidambaram for the Northeast peace process.
"I have a proposal to hold a peace rally with all Northeast football players to bring peace there," he said.
Earlier, GlaxoSmithKlien Consumer Healthcare announced a three-year tie-up with Football Players Association of India, headed by Bhutia.
Under the agreement, Lucozade Sport, a nutritional drink, will become the official partner.
