Former West Indies wicketkeeper Junior Murray has slammed the current team for lacking in “pride and passion”, as they search for redemption during the second Test starting at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, Australia, from Friday.

Murray also said that Chris Gayle’s men should put their heads down and dig deeper in a bid to lift themselves off the canvas against Australia.

“It is very sad being a past player, with all the guys before, who are really passionate. It looks too easy now, that the guys aren't taking it too seriously. They've got to keep their heads up and go for the win tomorrow,” The Daily Telegraph quoted Murray, as saying.

“It's got to come from deep within, you cannot really instil it, you have to have it in you. As a West Indian, if you want to play Test cricket it's got to be from within you,” he added.

Murray further said that injecting funds at grassroots level is not the only answer to rebuild the group, rather the players need to take it really hard.

“That (lack of funding) could be a problem, but it's mainly the passion and the pride and the way they play their cricket,” Murray said.

“When I used to play with Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh and the Benjamins (Kenny and Winston) and those guys, the facilities over there were the same, but we used to go out there and play for pride. Now, these guys need to play with more pride and passion and then they will give a better account of themselves,” he added.
