IPL row: Lalit Modi wants Jyotiraditya Scindia out

Lalit Modi has asked for the recusal of all the three members of the disciplinary committee, including Jyotiraditya Scindia. A letter to this effect was sent to the members of the committee besides the president and secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The demand was believed to have been mentioned in the additional submission made to the committee by his camp on Monday night. Scindia is the newest member of the committee who was appointed after board president Shashank Manohar quit the panel on Modi’s demand. According to sources, Modi wants his case to be handed over to an independent committee. His plea for the reconstitution of the panel was recently rejected by the Bombay high court.

“Additional submissions, as set out in the disciplinary committee meeting on July 16, have been filed,” Modi’s counsel Mehmood Abdi said. He would not, however, elaborate on the matter. Though the Modi camp was to file these additional submissions by July 18, the date set out by the disciplinary committee, a delay of one day was caused by the indisposition of senior counsel Venkatesh Dhond, Abdi said.

“Now as per the schedule of the committee, the BCCI will respond to these additional submissions by July 25. Thereafter, the issue of recusal as demanded by Modi shall be finally argued before the committee in New Delhi on July 27,” he said.

Modi, who is facing charges of financial irregularities, had originally asked for recusal of Amin and Jaitley from the panel as he contended they would be biased against him during the proceedings.
