Kings XI Punjab are unlikely to retain any of its players. At the time of going to print, the top brass of the franchise was huddled in a meeting over whether or not to retain players for the fourth edition of the IPL. “We have not decided yet. It is not necessary that we retain players,” a Kings XI official told DNA.
The Bombay high court, while granting stay to the Mohali-based team, extended the player retention deadline up to midnight of Tuesday by when Kings XI Punjab were asked to nominate the players they wish to retain.
Meanwhile, team co-owner Preity Zinta welcomed the HC’s interim order staying termination of the team. “Appreciate all the support my fans & all KXIP fans have given us ! THANK U GUYS frm the bottom of my heart 4 being the wind beneath r wings!” she said on her Twitter page. “Even though my wisdom tooth hurts I cannot stop grinning,” she further wrote.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have decided to retain Virat Kohli but Deccan Chargers have decided to go to the auction with full purse. Delhi Daredevils have left out Gautam Gambhir retaining only Virender Sehwag. Mumbai Indians have stuck with Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga and Kieron Pollard. Kolkata Knight Riders have decided to retain Chris Gayle.
As is already known, Chennai Super Kings kept their faith in Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay and all-rounder Albie Morkel.
“I am delighted that Virat will be with the Royal Challengers team for the next two years. Besides being one of the most promising young players in India, Virat also has some very significant playing achievements to his credit,” RCB director Sidhartha Mallya said in a statement released on Wednesday. Kohli had scored 307 runs in 16 matches for the Royal Challengers in IPL 3. He smacked those runs at a strike-rate of 144.81.
