Kiwis technically deficient against the Aussies: Richard Hadlee

A worried former New Zealand cricketing great Richard Hadlee has described the current lot of Kiwi cricketers as technically deficient, and urged them to work on their weaknesses.

“I am just worried technically are they right? A lot of them have poor footwork and their head doesn't look to be in the right position. A lot of the guys were caught behind because of this. The bowling was OK, but our fielding was awful,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hadlee, as saying about the team’s performance in the Gabba Test in Brisbane.

He also said that some domestic teams from New Zealand should have been included in Cricket Australia’s inaugural Big Bash Twenty20 league, as both boards have been promoting the concept of a Trans-Tasman rivalry for many years.

“We should have a couple of teams or franchises playing in the Big Bash. It would create a lot more interest and would help develop New Zealand. In our domestic … T20 competition, we only get 1500 people turning up to watch. Now, if we had two teams in the Big Bash, we certainly would get over 20,000 turning up to watch the Australian players and also the international players. It would benefit our game and certainly it's worth talking about,” said Hadlee.

He also said that it was important to balance out the workloads for emerging bowlers to prevent breakdowns.
