Lalit Modi has reiterated his demand for the recusal of Chirayu Amin and Arun Jaitley from the disciplinary committee.
At the first hearing of the committee, inquiring into the charges against the suspended chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Modi, through his lawyers Mehmood Abdi and Venkatesh Dhond, insisted that Amin recuse himself from the committee as he apprehended bias from the interim chairman of the Twenty20 league.

The committee members have sought a supplementary plea on recusal by July 18 and a reply from the Board of Control for Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India by July 25. A final decision on matter will be taken at the next disciplinary committee meeting in New Delhi on July 27. Jyotiraditya Scindia is the third member of the committee.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has allowed Modi to be represented by his lawyers at the meeting. The decision is the first of its kind in the Board’s history.

“In view of the complex nature of certain issues involved, interpretation of documents required, and additionally that one of us on the committee has a legal background, we feel that it would be just and fair that Modi be allowed to be represented through a lawyer in the enquiry,” stated the minutes of the meeting. The committee has also allowed the BCCI to be represented by a lawyer.

The committee told Modi’s lawyers that their client has to be present at the meeting to which Abdi and Dhond said they would need time to reply on the matter. They were told to reply by July 27.
Modi’s lawyers have informed the committee that their client is unable to appear before the committee immediately as he is facing a threat to his life from the underworld. There are also indications that Modi will move the Supreme Court next week.
