Ross Taylor’s loyalty will be tested

The advent of Twenty20 leagues raised the obvious debate of country versus club but Ross Taylor’s loyalties could be tested like never before.
The New Zealand batsman was already part of two teams, Central Districts from New Zealand and Victorian Bushrangers, which have qualified for the Champions League Twenty20.
And with Royal Challengers Bangalore winning the third-place playoff against Deccan Chargers on Saturday, Taylor will be spoilt for choice.
This is not the end of his dilemma. County champs Durham have also signed Taylor for their T20 season, and if they too qualify for the Champions League, Taylor could well have four champion teams who have his name in their ranks.
Even Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo are part of two teams, which have qualified for the Champions League. Big Bash runners-up Southern Redbacks and IPL finalists Mumbai Indians have the Pollard in their team, while MI teammate Bravo plays for Big Bash winners Bushrangers too.
If in case Trinidad and Tobago wins the President’s Cup in West Indies, then Pollard and Bravo will be part of three teams that would have made the Champions League cut.
There is a provision in the CL T20 participation agreement wherein a team has to be compensated $200,000 if a player doesn’t represent the home side in the Champions League.
Similar is the case of Cameron White, who is Taylor’s teammate at both RCB and Bushrangers.
For White, though, it would not be that difficult a choice to make as he leads the Bushrangers. RCB mainstay Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher will have to make a choice whether they play for South African champs Chevrolet Warriors or the Vijay Mallya-owned team.
For now, Big Bash winners Victorian Bushrangers, runners up Southern Redbacks, IPL finalists Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, HRV Cup winners Central Districts Stags from New Zealand, Chevrolet Warriors, winners of 2010 Standard Bank Pro20 and runners up Highveld Lions and Wayamba Elevens from Sri Lanka have made the cut for the Champions League.
Two more teams from England and one from West Indies are yet to qualify.
