'I will be back soon': Sir Alex Ferguson promises Old Trafford return in first message since brain surgery

Sir Alex Ferguson has sent his first public message after undergoing emergency brain surgery. The Manchester United legend was taken to hospital for life-saving surgery for a brain haemorrhage on May 5.

Ferguson, 76, was placed in an induced coma and was released from hospital last month. During his surgery and hospital stay messages of support poured in across the world from fans, players and managers from all over the world.

Sir Alex thanked everyone for their support and best wishes. 

Manchester United posted a video on their Twitter account featuring a special message from the legendary manager.

On Saturday 5 May, the football world was rocked by the news that Sir Alex Ferguson had undergone surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

Since then, the most successful manager in English football history has battled in a way only he knows how.

"Just a quick message, first of all, to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra Hospitals," Ferguson said.

"Believe me, without those people, who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. Thank you from me and my family, thank you very much.

"It has made me feel so humble, as have all the messages from all over the world, wishing me the best. The good wishes do resonate very strongly with me so thank you for that support you have given me."

Ferguson retired from management in 2013. However, he is a regular in the stands at Old Trafford. Sir Alex promised to return soon to support United during the upcoming campaign.

He added: "Lastly, I will be back later in the season to watch the team. In the meantime, all the best to Jose and the players. Thank you very much."
