WhatsApp has now released a new beta version for Android which allows users to lock voice recording. Additionally, the company has also introduced the ability to show users the size of the specific sticker before downloading them. These features can be seen in the update v2.18.102.
To try out the lock for the voice recording feature, users will have to simply press the mic icon at the bottom right of their WhatsApp chat. To lock while recording, press the icon and swipe up towards the lock symbol which will appear, reports Wabetainfo.
Users will now be able to record their message without holding the mic button. Once done, you can tap the send button to send the voice message. You can also press the cancel option to delete the voice recording. The company is also working on adding the option to play the voice messages before you send them. WhatsApp has also introduced the ability to read the size of a specific stickers pack before downloading it.
Recently, WhatsApp rolled out new features to the app as well. The new feature will allow users to add a group description so that users can know what the group is about. Additionally, a user can now switch between voice and video calling.
Users can now add a description to any of their Groups, which can be 512 characters long. To add a description, a user must tap the Group Info and add a description in the box below the thumbnail image of the group. It should be noted that only group admins can change the description. Users can also search for names of the people in the group chat.
Also, users can now switch between voice and video calls. To toggle between the voice and video call, users will have to tap on a tab that will appear during a call. This will allow them to switch between the voice and video option.
WhatsApp, a popular messaging app that competes with the likes of Hike, Google's Allo and Viber in India, started offering video calling feature in November last year. The video calling feature also pitched WhatsApp against popular video calling apps like Microsoft's Skype, Apple's FaceTime and Google Duo.
Globally, users make over 55 million video calls per day, spending more than 340 million minutes per day on these calls. WhatsApp is also home to over 200 million monthly active users. This is the highest base for WhatsApp that has over a billion users globally.
