The outcome of the the United States Presidential election 2016 has sent across shockwaves globally after Donald Trump was declared the 45th President.

Political commentators have been struggling to make sense of the results, after Hillary Clinton, who was widely expected to finally break the glass ceiling, suffered a crushing defeat. Even comedians had a sombre tone as they talked about parents struggling to explain Trump's win to their children.

Seth Meyers, the host of NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers, voiced a bit of hope for how the Trump administration might turn out.

"I have been wrong about him at every turn," Meyers said. "Wrong that Trump wouldn't run, wrong that he wouldn't get the GOP nomination, wrong that he wouldn't win.. The good news is, based on my pattern of getting it all wrong, he's going to be a great (darn) president!"

Meyers, who had famously roasted Trump in the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner, went on to talk about a silver lining to the results. Hillary did not succeed to become the first female President of the United States, but "someone’s daughter is out there right now who will one day have that title. . .The fact is, we don’t know who you are, but I imagine this moment today will be a defining one for you. One that will make you work harder, and strive farther, and whoever you are, I hope I live to see your inauguration.”

He also goes on to extend a special offer to Trump, in case The Donald wants to return to reality TV.
