36 Indians to remain behind bars in Pakistan

Thirty-six Indians, who have completed their sentences in Pakistani jails, will have to remain behind bars for another month as the government has not finalised arrangements for their deportation.
   
The Federal Review Board comprising three judges of the Supreme Court yesterday extended the detention of a total of 47 foreigners, including five women, for 90 days because the government is yet to complete formalities for their deportation.

The Board directed the government to ensure the early deportation of the foreigners to their countries. The foreigners include 36 Indians, including three from Jammu and Kashmir, and 11 nationals of Nepal, Yemen and Sudan.
   
The foreigners were convicted for different offences and were serving their jail terms. They were to have been released after the completion of their sentences.

Since the government had not finalised arrangements to deport them, it asked the Federal Review Board to extend their detention under the Security of Pakistan Act.
