Pak may extend military operation to North Waziristan: US senator

There is a possibility of Pakistani troops stretching their chase of the Taliban into the lawless North Waziristan region, considered a stronghold of fighters of the Haqqani network.
    
This was stated by influential American Senator Joe Lieberman, who is fresh from his trip to Pakistan with US senator John McCain, where they met the Army chief general Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

US is exerting pressure on Pakistan to extend its ongoing military campaign in South Waziristan to its northern part also, where America has intensified drone attacks on militant targets.
   
Washington believes that the top leadership of Pakistani Taliban, key operatives of al Qaeda and fighters of Afghan warlord Jalauddin Haqqani's network are concentrated in the area.
    
The Americans also want a military push into the region as they believe that the recent attack on their key intelligence base in Afghanistan's Khost region across the border was masterminded in North Waziristan.
    
Claiming that Pakistan had veered around to becoming a "full partner" in the war on terrorism, Lieberman told CNN: "It (Pakistan Army) pushed the Taliban out of the Swat area. It's pretty much cleared South Waziristan. I think there's a possibility that we'll see some movement in North Waziristan".
