Sarah Palin, the Republican Party's vice-presidential candidate for 2008, doesn't really approve of her 19-year-old daughter, Bristol Palin’s surprise re-engagement to her on-and-off boyfriend, Bristol told celebrity magazine US Weekly.

"My mom is not 100% backing us up right now," the teen mom told the magazine in an interview released on Wednesday. "She's apprehensive and concerned about this. She doesn't want to see me get hurt again."

Bristol Palin, whose pregnancy was revealed during her mother's vice-presidential campaign in 2008, announced in the magazine last week that she and Levi Johnston, 20, had reconnected and planned to marry next month.

The couple had not informed their parents. Sarah Palin issued a terse statement last week saying that Bristol had a belief in redemption ‘to a degree that most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives’.

"What I've done is starting to sink in, and every family member of mine has some concerns - and that is scaring me," Bristol Palin told US Weekly. "My dad is on the same page as my mom; they don't want to see again what I already went through with Levi. People are more worried for me than excited for me," she added.

Palin and Johnston were hurriedly engaged during Sarah Palin's campaign, but called it off after their baby, Tripp, was born in December 2008. Johnston later publicly criticized the Palin family and posed for Playgirl magazine.

Sarah Palin, who supports the teaching of abstinence, a form of sex education, in schools, is widely thought to be readying for a 2012 presidential bid.

The Palin-Johnston engagement announcement sparked speculation that a TV reality show was also in the works. Bristol Palin's representative on Monday denied the rumours.

"While several networks have pitched different concepts, Bristol has not agreed to participate in any show. Her focus remains on doing what is best for Tripp and her family," her representative told People magazine.
