Akash Shroff couldn’t mask the happiness in his voice, while talking about his receiving an admission offer letter from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) recently. An emotionally surcharged Akash said this was the moment he was waiting for from the time he appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT)!

Like Akash in Gandhinagar, three others from Gujarat have received admission offer letters from IIMA so far after the premier B-school started sending letters to selected students. The three include Swapnil Gandhi, Tanmay Rakshit and Siddharth Goel. The joy of having their cherished dreams fulfilled was palpable in these successful students’ voices.

The Mecca of B-schools had issued offer letters to complete a batch of 385 seats for the courses. Speaking to DNA, Akash expressed his happiness at fulfilling a heartfelt desire nurtured for a long time. “I always wanted to study at IIMA and I am happy my wish has finally come true,” he said. Akash, whose father is a government employee, hails from Gandhinagar.

Tanmay Rakshit who hails from Bihar is a student of Anand Agriculture University (AAU). Son of a farmer, Tanmay has received the admission offer letter for the Post Graduate Programme in Agri Business Management (PGP-ABM). Rakshit wants to make a difference in the field of agriculture. “Initially, I plan to take up job and then start own business in agriculture,” he said.

Of the total admission letters issued by the IIMA, about 72% students have prior working experience and 25% students have work experience of more than 2 years. Average work experience comes to around 22.5 months. Around 96% students are from engineering background. This time, 16% girls have been offered letters by the IIMA.

In-charge of admissions at IIMA, Prof AK Laha said that it would be difficult to specify the number of students who have made it to IIMA from Gujarat.
