Cognisant Technology Solutions, listed on NASDAQ, made a record 346 job offers to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the College of Engineering, Pune, (CoEP) in just one day.Likewise, 704 students of the Sinhgad Institute of Technology (SIT), Lonavla in Pune district were offered jobs by IT majors like Accenture, Cognisant and Infosys between September 11 and 17.

Training and placement officer, placement cell, CoEP, Sandeep Meshram said, "Cognisant's 346 job offers at the CoEP are the highest that any company across industries has made at our college. This time too the highest number of postgraduates was hired in a single day, which is a record till date."

While speaking with DNA, director of Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES), S Inamdar, confirmed 100% campus placements for the current year.

"This is mainly due to the demand from propelling infrastructure growth rate driving the economy. Business is booming and companies are registering growth, especially the IT industry," he said.

The general trend is that working people go for a career change after 2 or 3 years, so there is a vertical movement in the industry. The IT companies are filling the gap created by this vertical treatment, said Inamdar.

Meshram indicated that the rise in recruitment activity confirms the economic upsurge.

"It is also because of NASSCOM relaxing the guidelines that allowed software companies to recruit only in January every year. So, IT companies are now allowed to recruit students in September for 2012 placements," he added.

Since the selection procedure is largely based on a student's performance than grades, Inamdar said that more students from IT and computer streams are recruited.
