Swine flu death toll in the state rose to 91 in the current season on Tuesday with three more patients succumbing to the H1N1 virus.
The state health department said in a release that 92 swine flu cases were reported in the state today. With these, the number of swine flu cases confirmed in the state since January 1, rose to 2,818.
The release said that 32 swine flu cases were reported in Ahmedabad city. With this, the number of cases in the city rose to 857, of which 644 have been reported in February alone.
Sixteen new cases were reported in Vadodara city, seven in Bhavnagar, and six in Surat city. Amreli, Bhavnagar city, and Surendranagar reported three cases each.
Anand, Navsari, Bharuch, Rajkot, Dwarka, and Jamnagar city had two cases each, while Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Junagadh, Vadodara, Ahmedabad rural, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar city, Kutch, Chhota Udepur, and Mahisagar reported one case.
The health department said that 703 swine flu patients are under treatment, whereas 2,024 patients have been discharged since January 1, 2019.
A senior government official said that the spurt in swine flu cases is seasonal, and that the number would start coming down as temperature starts going up with withdrawal of monsoon.
