Fire tenders arrive at ISRO premises to contain the flame on Friday

This is the second fire incident that was reported this year at ISRO premises.

A fire broke out at ISRO premises located in the Satellite area of Ahmedabad on Friday. The blaze started inside an isolated storeroom where stationery items like various documents, pens, etc were hoarded.

Primary investigation revealed that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the wires.

This is the second fire incident that was reported this year at ISRO premises.

On May 6, a major fire had broken out at the Research Centre building number 37-A of the Space Application Centre (SAC) of ISRO. It took 25 firefighting vehicles and 130 firemen to douse the flames.

Fortunately, the blaze wasn't so strong this time and it could be controlled in two hours time.

At around 12.44 pm on Friday, the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Service (AFES) control room received a call informing about the fire. Shortly, two firefighting vehicles and four water tankers were pressed to service.

MF Dastoor, Chief Fire Officer, said, "After our team reached the spot, it took us only 25 minutes to control the fire, but due to the stationary material stored in the room, the smoke continued billowing and it took us another one and a half hours to contain that.

As a precautionary measure, we have pressed six vehicles to action; however, one was enough this time."

There were three senior fire officials and 24 firemen present at the spot. To control the smoke, the firemen had to first vacate the cupboards, racks and other objects kept inside the room. This delayed the process, otherwise the area could have been sanitised earlier.
