Ahmedabad based Navjivan Trust to launch facsimile edition of Gandhi's 'Harijan'

In a move to spread message and articles written by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, city-based Navajivan Trust on Monday announced the launch of ‘Harijan’ magazine —popularly known as voice of Gandhi.

The first facsimile version of ‘Harijan’ a weekly publication started by Gandhi to highlight social and economic problems of India and the world will be released on his birth anniversary October 2.

Managing trustee of the Navajivan Trust Vivek Desai said 19 volumes of the magazine would be reprinted for the first time. “We have also added 20th consolidated volume index of all 19 volumes prepared by well known economist Hemantkumar Shah.

So, a total of 20 volumes will be published,” he said.

Desai added the edition runs into a total of 8,400 pages and 955 issues. The price of the set would be Rs 30,000. However, for individual buyers a special price of Rs 25,000 would be offered.

Navajivan Trust  which owns rights of publication of literature related to Gandhiji was founded by Gandhi along with Mohanlal Maganlal Bhatta and its deed of trust was registered on November 26, 1929.

Gandhi began publishing Harijan, a weekly newspaper, in English in 1933. It lasted until 1948. During this time, Gandhi also published Harijan Bandu in Gujarati and Harijan Sevak in Hindi.

All three papers focused on India and the world's social and economic problems during the freedom struggle.
