A quick smoke break landed a man in the hospital on Thursday with 30% burns on his head, face, hands and leg. Gordhan Parmar, 49, stopped near Sindhu Bhavan road on Wednesday night for a quick smoke. However, unknowingly, he picked a spot near a leaking CNG pipeline and set off a blaze.
The incident took place at around 11.58 pm as the Ambedkar Colony resident was returning home. The construction labour works at a site near Thaltej and his two-wheeler was also damaged. "I stopped to answer a phone call," said Parmar, "Afterwards, I tried to light a beedi, when suddenly there was a blast and I was on fire." Passers-by rushed him to VS hospital for treatment.
"There was a leak in one of the Adani CNG pipelines passing through the road," said Rajesh Bhatt, additional chief fire officer of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency service department. "The Adani Gas technical team was also informed and within an hour the situation was under control."
