A city boy Pulkit Arora is ranked third in the country in the Chartered Accountant Final Exam results declared on Wednesday. Arora, managed to secure the third position in the All India ranking in his first attempt at clearing the final exams.
In all, two students from the state made it to the top 3. Apart from Arora, Shahid Husen Shokat of Koday in Kutch, Gujarat was ranked second across the country.
While Arora came third in the new course, Shokat came second while appearing for the finals in the old course.
It should be noted that CA students have the option of appearing for their finals either as per the old course or the new course.
Arora, who studied for 13 to 14 hours for the last six months said that it way a myth that the CA exams were very tough. "The exams are not tough but the subject is lengthy. So what you need is not just long hours of study but also one that is properly scheduled. You need to decide the time for coaching, that for practice, for revision etc. Planning is everything if you want to crack it," said Arora who interestingly is the first one in his immediate family to crack the exam.
Arora, whose father works with a private firm and who has an engineer brother cleared his bachelor of commerce degree from the Scottish Church College in Kolkata.
Arora had opted for the new course for his CA final exams. In all, 4 people from the state made it to the top 40 rankings. This included Ankit Jain (rank 22) Pooja Shah (Rank 26) Meet Lakhani (Rank 30) and Rohit Rangwani (Rank 37).
Jain who scored 22nd rank interestingly said that unlike the popular perception he did not burn the midnight oil to make it to the top.
"I studied for just four to five hours. I don't think you need to put in hours. The problem is that most people when they study don't do it with focus," said Jain.
He added that focusing on what you are studying was more important than counting the hours that you have logged in to 'study'.
In fact, Jain says he is not done with studying. He plans to study now for the CFA, the chartered Financial Analyst course too.
This year saw an overall pass percentage of 42.64% for the old course in the city while it was 45.35% for the new course.
The all India overall pass percentage for the old and new course were 42.04% and 36.93% respectively.
