Cops have started capturing pictures of violaters through CCTV cameras, but the updation of e-challan happened only in the evening.

It's not just the cops standing on the road you should be worried off, the e-challan all set with the new fine rates to generate challans to the offenders. Cops have started capturing pictures of violaters through CCTV cameras, but the updation of e-challan happened only in the evening.

A K Singh, City Police Commissioner said, "There was some official paperwork which needs to be followed before updating system due to which the process got delayed. But it doesn't mean, e-challan was stopped we have started capturing the violaters on real time from the morning itself and they are in our bucket. By evening the updation process will get over and we will start genrating the challans."

On Monday morning the updating process of the e-challan was started by the traffic department's technical team as the new fine rates were getting imposed from Monday. Till 6.30 pm the process was going on and the technical team were verifying and crosschecking the system before fully implementing it with the new fine rates.

"Today's traffic violators will get e-challan as per the new traffic fine and we have captured a number of them," Singh said.

Traffic cops to have 1000 devices to issue challan.

On Monday there was a meeting held in Gandhinagar regarding removing the manual memo process and handling devices to traffic cops to issue challans. Within a week, around 1000 devices will be given to then traffic cops to issue challans. The device will be capable of checking the history of violation of the vehicle and owner, pending fines, will be accepting cards payments, will be connected to the e-challan etc.

"Initially, the idea is a more civic approach to the whole thing of new fine. Later on, the enforcement will acquire more teeth by shifting from manual paper memos to handle devices completely. Regarding which the government has already approved to sanction 1,000 devices to Ahmedabad traffic police department and within a week we will get it," Singh added.

Advantage of being connected through the electronic platform is handly for the cops. For instance, if a cop stops somebody fining for violation, the device will show the history of violation and pending fines of that particular person.

Apart from that, the citizen will have the benefit of the electronic platform in terms of payment and there will be transperacy when the payment will be done through cards and citizen will recive reciept for it.
