Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation served notice to the Maninagar outlet of Honest Restaurant on Thursday after a customer complained to the health department about a dead cockroach in a dosa he ordered there. The unit is now closed to customers until further instructions from the civic body.
The incident took place when a party of five people visited the restaurant recently. One of the members found the unwelcome insect in the dosa and informed the civic health department. "We have served a closure notice to the said outlet of Honest restaurant. It can resume operations only after further orders from AMC," said civic health officer Bhavin Joshi.
Proprietors of Honest Restaurant refused to comment on the issue, but sources in the know say that the management is very strict about quality control and service and is looking into the lapses. "Considering the monsoon season, special pest control measures were undertaken by the restaurant," said the source. "Everyone is shocked at how this happened. The management is disconcerted by the way the issue has been blown up. It gives a bad name to a brand that has grown from a streetside outlet to one of the favourite brands of the city."
The management had attributed the incident to human error and is determined to ensure that the incident is not repeated. "Quality of raw materials and taste of the final product are given utmost importance," said the source.
