City lad Kishan Patel of Vellore Institute of Design (VIT) helped his college team bag three different awards at an international automobile designing competition in South Africa. Patel is currently in third year of his undergraduate course at the institute.

The team – Jaabaz – bagged first prize in feasibility of mass production, came second in cost efficiency and fifth in design reports of the car designed entirely by them. They designed Baja – a small All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) – and presented it at SAE Baja Competition, South Africa.

The vehicle is designed to work in the roughest of terrains in really hostile as well as real-world conditions, said Patel who is currently in Ahmedabad. The team competed against 14 other cars from universities all over world.

“The construction of the car is a challenge. The terrains designed to test it are unpredictable and the competition’s intense,” said Patel.
