However, no one turned up at the auction, so, the AMC decided to use the property for its own use.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Wednesday auctioned a commercial establishment valued at Rs 4 lakh as it owed the civic body Rs 22.23 lakh in outstanding property tax. However, no one turned up at the auction, so, the AMC decided to use the property for its own use.

"We will take over the property on Thursday. The estate department will do the work. We had invited online bidders. However, we haven't found a taker for the property located at Kalupur yet. The evaluator decided the value of the property to be Rs 4 lakh," said a senior AMC official.

AMC's tax department had decided to auction properties of all defaulters whose dues would be more than Rs 5 lakh. In the first phase, they identified 21 properties for auctioning. Dues of most of the identified properties were, however, cleared, except nine.

At first, three properties were identified for auctioning on January 2 and 3, 2019. Two of them then paid their dues, so only one was being attached by the tax department.

Bidders were invited for the same. Saheli Party plot, whose due was Rs 67.78 lakh, cleared the outstanding amount soon after the AMC invited bids for auctioning the property. AMC had decided value of the property at Rs 24.63 crore.

Meanwhile, Sudama resort, one of the properties identified to auction, cleared dues worth Rs 2.12 crore, before it was up for auction or AMC could advertise for the same.
