The meeting on Friday is expected to motivate more CG road shop owners to apply for regularisation.

Though the civic body does not have many applications for regularisation of establishments from CG road shop owners, this scene may soon change, thanks to changes in the existing rules for impact fee announced on Friday. With the revisions, nearly 2,000 shop owners on the stretch are set to benefit.

In the meeting held between civic body officials and members of CG Road Shops and Offices Owners’ Association, a few norms were relaxed for the shop owners. The relaxation has motivated many of the shop owners to apply for regularizing their commercial establishments.

The first decision was pertaining to the parking facility of the building. Earlier, it was mandatory for a building to have parking facility for it to be regularised. However, according to town development officer Rajesh Patel this rule has now been relaxed.

Elaborating on the new norms, vice president of the association, Vasant Tirodkar stated, “The AMC officials assured us that even if a building does not have parking facility, they will accept their forms and will decide later on how or where to provide the parking.” He added, “This decision has come as a huge relief for us, as many of our buildings do not parking facility because of which we couldn’t apply.”

The second decision announced by Patel was related to individual application. Patel stated that such applications seeking regularization of shops will also be accepted. This is in deviation from the earlier rule which required applications from an entire building (or at least 75% of the shops in the building). This decision too has motivated the shop owners to go for legalization now

The meeting on Friday focused on creating awareness among shop owners of CG road. Many of them had not come forward to get their construction regularized, due to which AMC held a separate meeting. While some of the commercial complexes on the stretch do not have proper BU licence, some are unauthorised constructions.  As an impact of the one-and-half-hour-long meeting held at Sports Club, Navrangpura, more CG road shop owners are expected to come forward to get their establishments legalised. Around 700 shop owners were present in the meeting.
