On World Malaria Day, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) vowed to stop malaria transmission. In a press conference held by the health department of the civic body, the officers said that now, the department will intensify their drive to curb breeding sites and malaria transmission.

Giving a detailed road map for malaria-free Ahmedabad by 2022, Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer, spoke about making the city free from malaria with the help of citizens. "To achieve this goal, equal participation from the citizens is required. People have to keep vigil in their homes and surroundings. Phase-wise, we are having meetings with educational, commercial and residential units and informing them regarding the prevention of possible breeding sites," said Dr Solanki.

"During the awareness activities, we are advising people to complete medical treatments prescribed by the doctor and to sleep in mosquito nets. To save ourselves from mosquito bites, we should use repellents, coils, electric mats and other available tools," added the health officer.
