Revised parking fee comes into effect as AMC aims to encourage citizens to use multi-level parking in other areas

In a bid to encourage commuters/visitors to use multistorey parking areas that charge on a two-hour basis, the civic body has implemented charging an hourly rent for parking on the CG Road street slots from Tuesday onwards.

The cost for two-wheelers is Rs 5 per hour, and for autorickshaws is Rs 10 while for four-wheelers is Rs 20 an hour. The cost for parking in other areas in the city for two hours is Rs Rs 7 for two-wheelers and Rs 15 for four-wheelers.

The cost in Navrangpura's multistorey parking for two-wheeler is Rs 12 and Rs 40 for a four-wheeler, both for up to 12 hours.

"The 26 pay-and-parks will charge at the existing rates. There won't be any hike. The CG road parking is hiked to discourage shop-owners from parking for long hours and introducing hourly parking so it works in the interest of the citizens and customers," Municipal Commissioner, Vijay Nehra said.

"In that stretch, the shop-owners can't park for 12 hours as it will become costlier for them. This will encourage them to use the multistorey parking so the CG Road space can be freed for the customers."

48 open plots will be identified for parking

A meeting was held between the police department and civic officials on Monday regarding traffic management in the city. It was decided that instead of the earlier identified 26 open plots, 48 open plots will be used for parking. Also, there will be five multistorey parking in the city.

The civic officials have asked the police department to survey and identify the streets with less vehicular movement, which could be to used for two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking.

Kankaria multi-level parking free for a month

Standing committee chairman, Amul Bhatt said citizens can avail free parking service at Kankaria multistorey parking for a month in a trial project. "We are going to allow free parking in the Kankaria multistorey parking for a month starting August 13. This will be available for 12 hours from 9 am to 9 pm. The parking building can accommodate 250 two-wheelers on the ground floor and from the first to seventh floor 250 four-wheelers," said Bhatt.

"The free parking is on a trial basis and the parking fees will be decided based on public's response," added Bhatt.

  • Congress has said called the drive a failure of the state to form a proper policy and implement the existing one

  • Senior Congress leader, Surendra Baxi said many families are earning their livelihood by selling street food. In 2014, the then government had introduced a Street Vendors Policy for such people. But the BJP has failed to introduce and implement that policy
