On Saturday, a team of Ahmedabad Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) arrested two men from the Sabarmati Railway station and recovered 24kg of Kashmiri charas from them which has a market value of Rs 2.5 crore.
During the primary investigation, it was revealed that the accused were going to deliver the consignment to a local peddler in Ahmedabad.
The accused were identified as Rizwan Kaiyyam Uddin and Jishan Chhote, both residents of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh. As per officials, the accused worked as a carrier for the main supplier in Kashmir and they were paid by him to deliver the consignment to the location.
The Zonal Director of NCB, A Bruno, got specific information from their source that a huge consignment is going to deliver in Ahmedabad through Railways and the delivery is going to happen on Saturday early morning. Acting on the tip-off a team was put on watch in Sabarmati Railway station when the Ashram Express train (12916) the officials got inside the specific compartment and nabbed the two accused. While checking their bags, 12 packets packed in adhesive tapes were recovered from them, which contained a total of 24kg worth of Kashmiri Charas.
While interrogating the accused they revealed that a person from Kashmir had given them the order to deliver the consignment to Ahmedabad. The receivers name was not disclosed to them, they were given a number on which they had to call when reaching Ahmedabad and the receiver will give them the direction to the location where the consignment was supposed to be delivered.
A Bruno, Zonal Director of NCB, said, "We have got to know during the investigation that the entire consignment was for Ahmedabad's consumption only and it was supposed to be sold in Ahmedabad's local market.
Right now we are trying to our hands on the receiver and have started an investigation to nab him down. The total consignment was of 24kg, which has a market value of Rs 2.5 crore." The officials suspect that this not the first time, the accused have delivered the stuff to Ahmedabad. Further investigation will reveal more about the case.
