Ahmedabad: Step-grandfather booked for raping seven-year-old

A 75-year-old step-grandfather allegedly raped his seven-year-old granddaughter in Gomtipur area. The accused  was arrested on Thursday after a complaint was lodged by the victim’s mother. 

According to the complaint, the minor was sexually harassed for the past three months. The incident came into light after the victim complained to her grandmother of pain in her privates and narrated the entire incident.

As per police, seven-year back, the complainant got married and had a daughter. Post their divorce, the child lived with her mother. About three months back she remarried in Gomtipur lived with her in-laws. 

On June 25, the victim on a visit to her grandmother’s, complained of having irritation and pain. After enquiring further, the minor narrated of having been sexually exploited multiple times by her step grandfather. She said that, whenever her parents were out for work, he would lure her into his room and rape her. 

CB Tandel, inspector of Gomtipur police station stated, “An arguement broke out between the mother and step-grandfather after she was informed about the incident.Following the dispute, the mother and daughter were asked to leave the house. Later a complaint was lodged under IPC 376,354 and POSCO act.”

Gomtipur police have arrested the accused. “During the interrogation, the alleged accused refused to confess his crime,” said Tandel. He further added, “We are still verifying the details mentioned in the FIR and have sent the girl for a medical test. The reports will reveal what actually happened.”
