Following the Heat Action Plan, the civic body had announced Orange Alert for the day, but surprisingly, the mercury stayed at 42 degree Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature on Friday could reach 43 degree Celsius.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation had also distributed ORS packets at several public places.
The civic body has kept its parks and gardens open for all days and there will be free distribution of buttermilk during the hot and severely hot days.
For Friday, the IMD forecast clear skies with dry weather. The maximum temperature expected for the day is 43 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature could be around 28 degree Celsius.
On Thursday, the weather was dry in all the districts of Gujarat region and Saurashtra. Ahmedabad witnessed another hot day. The maximum temperature recorded in the city was 42 degree Celsius which was two degrees above normal.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.7 degree Celsius. Across the state, Amreli recorded the highest maximum temperature which was 42.8 degree Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 20.8 degree Celsius in Veraval.
The Met department has forecast heatwave conditions for the next four days for some districts across the state. In a press bulletin, it mentioned that heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in the districts of Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Surat and in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch, namely Kutch, Amreli, Surendranagar and Diu.
