The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday announced they will stop the Airport Shuttle Bus service from Saturday.

Almost 16 months after the project was flagged, the civic body decided to discontinue the service.

Six AC buses, with wifi installed, used to ply between Karnavati Club and the airport. The buses would ply every half-an-hour.

"We tried to popularise the service but that didn't happen. We hardly had five passengers a day," said a senior AMC official.

The fare was Rs50 per trip which was very affordable. Earlier, the authority had decided to increase the rate and double the fare. Earlier, the civic body had decided to add 15 more buses to the service on three different routes.

However, another AMC data revealed that on an average 10,000 commuters used to avail the service monthly. The number of passengers increased during the summer vacation of the schools and the Diwali.
