Chief minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced the creation of a new district, Aravalli, which will be the 29th district of Gujarat. He made this announcement at Ambaji (Banaskantha district) on September 17 which happens to be his birthday.
The new district will be carved out of Sabarkantha district. Modi also announced the creation of a new taluka — Poshina — which, along with Khedbrahma, Idar, Vadali, Bhiloda and Vijaynagar talukas of Sabarkantha district, will form the new Aravalli district.
The chief minister set off on the third leg of the Swami Vivekananda Yuva Vikas Yatra from Ambaji on Monday. Earlier in the day, he had addressed a large gathering of youth at the Vivekananda Yuva Parishad in Rajkot.
Speaking at Ambaji before starting on the third leg of the Yatra, the chief minister denounced the Congress for the 6-cylinder cap announced on subsidized LPG made available to households. He continued with his Congress-bashing and severely criticized the UPA government for scams and price rise.
“The Congress has lost faith in democracy. It is criticizing all constitutional authorities like CAG and also the media. Congress ministers say that the CAG is useless because it has pointed out the coal scam,” Modi said.
The chief minister also praised the development work done in the tribal belt by his government. “The Congress, during its 40 years in power in Gujarat, could not open a science stream school in the tribal belt from Umargam to Ambaji. We, on the other hand, have started 87 science schools in the state.
It has become a habit for the Congress to organize scams. Its leaders are now claiming that people will forget the coal scam just as they have forgotten the Bofors scam,” the chief minister said.
Later, when he was speaking at a public meeting in Vadali, a group of 10-15 people suddenly got up and started shouting slogans against the state government. However, they were pushed out of the meeting by some BJP workers.
Modi travelled from Ambaji to Hadad, Khedbrahma, Vadali, Idar, Himmatnagar of Sabarkantha district and concluded the third leg of the Yatra at Vijapur in Mehsana district.
