Alleging distortion of history, Patidar reservation agitation leader Hardik Patel Tuesday asked the government to not allow release of Padmaavat in Gujarat at any cost.
"There are huge protests because Padmaavat has hurt sentiments of Rajput community and Hindus. It is our collective responsibility to uphold our great history. I request you not to allow Padmaavat to be screened in Gujarat keeping in mind the law & order situation and the community's sentiments," Hardik wrote in a letter to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
While clarifying that he respects the Supreme Court, the fiery leader, who has been lying low since the Gujarat assembly election results last month, said that Rajputs had surrendered their kingdoms for the sake of country's unity, and it was now everyone's responsibility to uphold their honour.
Hardik closed the letter with a warning that any law & order issues arising in the state because of the film being released would be entirely the government's responsibility.
