The Ahmedabad Police has made extensive security arrangements for August 15, pressing all its officers into action for Independence Day on Wednesday. They have taken several precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incident.
All transit routes have been barricaded and checkposts have been set up to monitor every vehicle leaving or entering the city. The administration has deployed additional personnel at public places such as airport, bus terminals, malls, etc. Moreover, every police station has been ordered to check the hotels, guesthouses and lodges in their areas and scan their guest lists.
Bomb squads have been conducting drills in crowded areas for the past two days. Besides, Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been put on standby.
Vijay Patel, DCP (Control Room), said: "For the past two days, we are checking vehicles entering the city and people who are not giving satisfactory answers, their vehicles are being impounded. Apart from that, BDDS teams are conducting drills at several places as well. We have deployed our entire staff to maintain safety and security in the city."
