Vadodara MLA from Raopura constituency Rajendra Trivedi is likely to be appointed as speaker of Gujarat assembly in next session. Vadodara had not got any representation in the government during the formation of the cabinet by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani after the assembly elections. There was a great demand from the central Gujarat city within BJP for the representation of city MLA in government.

A senior BJP leader in Gujarat said, "As the opposition have more members in assembly and many of the members are vocal, it is necessary for the ruling party to appoint a speaker who can keep them under control. As many of the senior leaders of the party could not win in assembly elections, the party needed the face who is well versed with the rules of assembly and constitution and Trivedi is suitable for that position."

Trivedi is a lawyer and was the minister of state for youth services and cultural affairs minister in the last government led by CM Vijay Rupani. After the formation of a new government following to the elections, not a single MLA from Vadodara was inducted.
