Farmers from across the state will protest against the allegedly anti-farmer policies of the Gujarat government.
A number of financial organisations will raise the issue of bringing accountability and transparency in the use of water from Narmada canal, debt waiver for farmers, ensuring that farmers get the price as per the Minimum Support Price as well as cancellation of archaic laws and practices that work to the detriment of the farmers.
Accordingly, a number of farmers' organizations have joined hands, including Khedut Samaj- Gujarat, and Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sabha. Their representatives will seat at Satyagrah Chhavani in Gandhinagar from March 12-16, from 12-00 am to 5-00 pm.
As the session of Gujarat Legislative Assembly is in session, they would draw attention of the legislatures and urge them to ensure that the government does not take any steps that are detrimental to the farming community. The decision was a result of the meeting of farmers' leaders recently in Ahmedabad.
In the Dharna, one representative of all the three organizations will participate in the Dharna in Gandhinagar next month. "During these five days, farmers and their well-wishers from all districts will come to extend their support and solidarity with cause. Being non-political program, any leader or activists can join or extend the support without their party symbol and express their support and solidarity to farmers' cause," said Sagar Rabari, general secretary of Khedut Samaj – Gujarat.
