From July 1 to 15, we have collected over four lakh such blood samples who were suffering from viral fever, said Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer of health, AMC.

If you are feeling too cold, sneezing a lot and having fever than you are not the only one. The health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) says on an average it is testing blood samples of at least 2,000 people who are suffering from viral fever. The number of cases is on the rise after the recent spell of rain.

From July 1 to 15, we have collected over four lakh such blood samples who were suffering from viral fever, said Dr Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical officer of health, AMC.

Private practitioners also say they have seen a spike of 10 to 15% viral cases in the last three days.

Dr Solanki said, “We have been screening over 2,000 people daily who are suffering from viral fever. Most of them are from slum pockets. We sent their blood samples for further laboratory testing to check whether they are suffering from dengue, malaria or any other vector-borne diseases.” However, Solanki said, the number of vector-borne diseases are less.

Dr Pravin Garg, senior physician, said, “In last three days, there has been a rise of 10 to 15% in viral fever cases at my clinic. In this weather, people should extra care.”

He advised to avoid sitting in A/C continuously and fan and drinking cold beverages. “In case of sickness, contact doctor and don’t go for self-medication,” added Dr Garg.

Prevention is better than cure:

Drink clean and boiled water
Cover mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing
Use mosquito repellents and nets
Avoid eating out and consume fresh food only
Avoid getting wet in rain
